Biography – Commander Michelaine T. Lahaie, CD
Commander Michelaine Lahaie joined the Canadian Forces in 1987 from Hamilton, Ontario, under the Regular Officer Training Plan. She attended "College militaire royal de Saint-Jean", graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor's Degree in Military and Strategic Studies. Upon graduation, she was commissioned as a Maritime Surface Sub Surface (MARS) officer. She was posted to Esquimalt, British Columbia to take her occupation training. She was promoted to Sub-Lieutenant in 1993 and subsequently posted to Halifax and her first operational ship, HMSC PRESERVER. During her two years with PRESERVER, the ship deployed twice with OPERATION SHARP GUARD, a UN ground peacekeeping effort that included the participation of a NATO task group imposing economic sanctions off the Bosnian coast line.
Commander Lahaie was promoted to Lieutenant, Royal Canadian Navy in 1995 and proceeded on her Underwater Warfare Director's course that same year. Upon completion of course, Commander Lahaie was posted as the Underwater Warfare Officer in HMCS VILLE DE QUEBEC. During her two years onboard, the ship participated in several NATO exercises and completed two Great Lakes Deployments. In 1998, Commander Lahaie was posted to Maritime Forces Atlantic as the Deputy Fleet Scheduling Officer. In 2001, Commander Lahaie was selected for and attended the Operations Room Officer course at the Canadian Forces Naval Operations School. She was then posted as the Operations Officer on the HMCS MONTREAL. Commander Lahaie's tour in HMCS MONTREAL saw the ship ramp up to High Readiness and deploy as the Flag Ship for OPERATION APOLLO, from September 2002 to April 2003.
Promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 2003. Commander Lahaie assumed the role of Combat Officer of HMCS MONTREAL. In 2004, she was posted to the Canadian Forces Naval Operations School as the Command Control Information Systems Officer. Eighteen months later, she was posted to the Royal Military College of Canada as B Division Commander. In 2007, Commander Lahaie was posted to Naval Staff in Ottawa as the Occupation Manager for the MARS Occupation. In 2008, she was posted to the Directorate of Military Careers as the senior MARS career manager.
Promoted to Commander in 2009, Commander Lahaie was posted back to the Naval Staff as the Personnel Policy Section Head in the Directorate of Maritime Personnel. In 2010, Commander Lahaie was posted once again to the Directorate of Military Careers, this time as the Section Head for the career management of all Naval Hard Sea occupations and Musicians.
In July 2012, Commander Lahaie assumed command of the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.
In her spare time, Commander Lahaie enjoys yoga and reading. She is married to Lieutenant-Colonel Gary Hardwick.
